A fresh start

Finally, skiller.eu gets a major overhaul.
You probably already know that programmers and other web professionals who mainly work as free lancer usually turn to their own sites last, so it turned out I am no exception. Not that I didn’t have ambitious plans with this site – there was just too much that got in the way before I finally decided to readjust my priorities.
Here’s a quick summary of past and future plans for my website:
- New design – there are still visitors flocking to my old 2003 site, but in fact the new design was the first thing that had been sitting in my drawer for months. I still have to define a good portion of the WordPress theme.
- Build my own multi-frontend PHP CMS using Zend Framework – Nope. Plenty of existing platforms and CMSes to use. I considered Drupal and MovableType, but finally settled with WordPress. I’d rather have the WordPress guys implement nifty features for my site than doing it myself.
- Multi-language content – yes, definitely. Since most of my target audience is scattered around the world, I start in English. Only posts targeted specifically at the German tongue region will be posted in German.
- Blog – originally planned as one module within my site. Well, here we are.
- Event schedule – lots of what I do is around courses and events, so I always wanted some sort of event calendar. Soon to come, but via a WordPress plugin.
- Twitter stream – actually a no-brainer with WordPress plugins.
That’s for now, I’ll keep you updated. Thanks for hanging in.
